Dear Patrons,

We hope that this message finds you well in such uncertain times. Music can provide solace and connection and we are surrounding ourselves with as much as we can during this difficult time. It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that the Masterworks 6 concerts April 17, 18, and 19 have to be postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak and closure of the facilities where rehearsals and performances would take place, all which are events beyond the RVS’s control. We are continuing to try to find the best solutions for all of our staff, musicians, and patrons as this situation changes. We are currently working to reschedule these concerts and will announce the details as soon as possible. We are all aware that information about COVID-19 changes daily as we discover the many ways our state and nation are responding. As soon as we see the other side of this health crisis, we will be able to announce a new concert date for MW6. We are too excited about all that we have planned for you to allow the concert to go unproduced! Here are your options:

• Have your tickets roll over to the newly rescheduled performances. 
• Exchange your ticket(s) for any future 2020-2021 performance. All exchange fees will be waived in this situation. This applies to new ticket purchases only, not purchases you have already made.
• Donate your ticket(s) and receive a tax deduction for the total ticket value. 

Ticket holders are encouraged to consider having their tickets roll over to the new performance, exchanging, or donating the cost of their tickets back to the Rogue Valley Symphony. This helps support us during this challenging time as we navigate the significant, ongoing impact of the COVID-19 situation.

All requests for ticket donations or exchanges must be received by June 15, 2020. If we do not receive a request we will assume you wish us to hold your tickets and roll them over to the rescheduled performance. If, when we reschedule the concert, you are unable to attend, we will reconcile your account at that time.

The Rogue Valley Symphony

Dear Patrons:

Oregon Governor Kate Brown has announced a ban on all public gatherings of more than 250 people statewide for four weeks, effective immediately and ending on April 8. The Craterian Theater at the Collier Center has announced plans to close during this period. However, our upcoming Masterworks 6 concert dates of April 17, 18 and 19 are outside of this four-week period and have not been cancelled at this point.  Since we do not know how COVID-19 (coronavirus) will impact our community over the coming weeks, it is too soon to know whether we will be able to perform as scheduled. We have every hope of being able to do so. We are in consultation with Jackson County Health Department and our arts and community partners to assist us in gathering information and making this important decision.  We will continue to monitor the situation and advise you if a decision is made to cancel the upcoming concerts. We acknowledge and share the public’s concerns about COVID-19. The safety and health of staff and patrons is a top priority for the Rogue Valley Symphony. Please watch for emails from us as we continue to keep you informed of our plans.  In the event it becomes necessary to cancel Masterworks 6 performances, or if you individually decide it is best for you not to attend the concert, these are your options:

• Donate your ticket(s) and receive a tax deduction for the ticket value. We hope you will consider this option as it will help to support us as an arts nonprofit during this challenging time.  
• Refund for the value of the ticket(s).

The Rogue Valley Symphony is committed to the health and safety of everyone attending our concerts. We are seriously monitoring the global coronavirus situation, regularly checking for updates from Jackson County Health Department, The Oregon Health Authority, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Our performance and rehearsal halls are considering what extra precautionary measures to take during this time and will be assessing cleaning protocols regularly.

For now, we plan to go ahead as scheduled with our April concerts. As the situation develops, we will prioritize the health of our audience, musicians and staff by implementing and communicating appropriate changes that ensure a safe environment. In the event of a cancellation, we’ll notify all ticket holders by email, phone and/or text at least 2–3 hours before the concert. The latest updates will be posted on our website and the Rogue Valley Symphony Box Office outgoing voicemail will also be updated if there are any changes to the schedule.

We are thrilled to welcome David Ludwig back to the Rogue Valley as Composer in Residence for the 2020–2021 season. David was first here in 2017 for our performances of his violin concerto with his wife, Bella Hristova, as soloist. We already knew Bella, having featured her in 2014, but this visit with both of them together was something special, and it blossomed into a plan to get him back to work with RVS again. Thus was born the plan for our first ever Composer in Residence.

David will be visiting for three weeks, spread apart throughout the season. The orchestra will be performing two of his works and David will be in town for rehearsals and performances of both those pieces. He will also be speaking about his work and doing educational outreach in our schools. In addition, David will be working on a new commission to be premiered by the RVS in our 2021– 2022 season. We will be announcing more specifics regarding his activities during his residency as the season gets closer.

Born in Bucks County, PA, Ludwig comes from several generations of eminent musicians including uncle Peter Serkin, grandfather Rudolf Serkin and great grandfather Adolf Busch. He holds degrees from Oberlin, The Manhattan School, the Curtis Institute, The Juilliard School, and a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. Ludwig serves as the director of the composition faculty of Curtis and is the Gie and Lisa Liem Artistic Advisor and director of the Curtis 20/21 Contemporary Music Ensemble.

The Rogue Valley Symphony is pleased to announce the formation of the Rogue Valley Symphony Chorus with its premiere scheduled for April of 2020. Led by Chorus Master Laurie Anne Hunter, the RVSC will be the official chorus for the Rogue Valley Symphony and has plans to collaborate with the Britt Festival Orchestra in 2020. We are so pleased to be a part of Ovation TV’s Arts Across The Heartland initiative! They will be including us in a one-hour feature program on live TV that aims to show the impact of arts organizations on their communities. In Ovation’s words:

As you probably are aware, the Rogue Valley Symphony has commissioned five new compositions that are being premiered on our Masterworks series this season. The first was I’lana Cotton’s piece Cantus, which was premiered on our Masterworks 2 concerts in October.  With the help of local videographer Laney D’Aquino, we have begun documenting the process. The project will culminate in a documentary featuring interviews, rehearsal footage, and full performances of the commissioned works. Here is a taste of what is to come!
